Cascadian urbanist, technologist, and data nerd

About

I'm Dillon Mahmoudi, an Economic Geographer currently pursuing a PhD Urban Studies at Portland State University.  I also work as a Graduate Research Assistant for Professor Ethan Seltzer and as a GIS Specialist for Joe Cortright, collaborating with ArtPlace.

How can technology improve our cities?

Trying to better understand the answers to this question has led my research in open collaboration, innovation, high-low tech, the human and economic geography of cities, and non-traditional economic development.

Some of my recent side-projects include creating the Portland Badassness Map and developing the forthcoming interactive Badassness Mapper.

A little more

I earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA and have worked in the past on Microsoft Keyboards and Mice in Redmond, WA, on the Microsoft .NET Framework in Dublin, Ireland and in eCommerce for National Instruments in Austin, TX.

In my spare time, I am a husband, programmer, soccer player, cyclist, beer brewer and thinker. I also eat pizza every Friday and do my best to post pictures on Google+. After all, that which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.

And it's Mawh-moo-dee.
